When some people think of American Indians, the first thing they think of are people in a barren desert, next to a tipi dressed in buckskin and feathers.
Truth is, most tribes never used headdresses and not the most commonly used. Feathered war bonnets or headdresses were worn by honored men, sometimes into battle, but most often for ceremonial occasions, and were seen as items of great spiritual and magical importance.
The bonnet had to be earned through brave deeds in battle because the feathers signified the deeds themselves. Some warriors
might have obtained only two or three honor feathers in their whole lifetime, so difficult were they to earn. The bonnet was also a mark of highest respect because it could never be worn without the consent of the leaders of the tribe.
With that being said, it's so un-PC that I'm wearing a headdress, so no need to tell me that. But this isn't about me, it's about Drew Barrymore. A few weeks ago, this photo of Drew was posted (and quickly taken down). I read the article, which didn't say much, and I'm very sad that I couldn't find any kind of comment from the star. I just don't like her now, because her headdress is bigger than mine.
